The ASB Auckland Marathon and Barfoot & Thompson Half Marathon offer an Elite Assistance Programme. For the 2017 event, travel, accommodation and complimentary entries are limited and all approval decisions will be made at the discretion of the Event Organisers.

Applications for Elite runners will be available from 13th April 2017. Applications will close on Friday 1st September. All applications will go through a review process once entries have closed. Applicants will be notified by the end of September if they have been successful, and the level of support offered. This can include;

  • Complimentary Entry
  • Elite Priority start
  • Accommodation
  • Travel

To be considered, elite applicants must have achieved the Elite Status criteria below in a previous race:-

MALE 2 hours 30 minutes 1 hour 7 minutes
FEMALE 2 hours 55 minutes 1 hour 17 minutes

Top of the Bridge Prime Awards

The Top of the Bridge Prime Awards recognise the first male and first female runners in the full marathon to cross the top of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. This is approximately 15k from the event start line at Devonport. The top of the Auckland Harbour Bridge is defined as the official timing mats on the bridge for the purposes of the awards and event officials will also be present at this point to adjudicate. The two winning elite athletes will each receive a cash prize of $500 each. To be eligible for the prize the runners must complete the full marathon distance.

*All prizes are in NZ dollars and those prizes above $500 are subject to 20% resident withholding tax.

To apply, please complete the 2017 Elite Application Form and submit to no later than Friday 1st September 2017



  • All athletes must have run on a certified course since Friday 1st January 2016.
  • Applications MUST be received by Friday 1st September.
  • Athletes must have their own identification and correct documentation to enter and exit the country.
  • No letters of invitation or authorisation will be forwarded.
