Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Marathon Just One Month Away
New Zealand’s biggest and most iconic marathon event is now just one month away.
The Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Marathon will see thousands of runners take on one of five distances, with the Barfoot & Thompson Marathon and Wheelchair Marathon, Garmin Half Marathon, One New Zealand 11km Traverse, 5km, and Barfoot & Thompson Kids Marathon (2.2km) all on offer.
With one month left until Auckland comes alive as a colourful celebration of running, now is the perfect time to sign up and start training.
Mitch Murcott, Race Director of the Auckland Marathon, is encouraging runners of all abilities to get involved in the 32nd edition of the popular event.
“With today marking one month to go until the 2023 Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Marathon it’s the perfect time to sign up and run the city this October,” said Murcott. “The Auckland Marathon is open to people of all abilities, with people running, jogging, or walking their way to the vibrant finish line in Victoria Park.
“The Auckland Marathon has a great atmosphere, with volunteers and spectators lining the streets to cheer on participants,” he said. “The courses take in the best highlights of the city, including the once-a-year opportunity to cross the Harbour Bridge on foot – only offered to those taking part in this event.
“We’re delighted to see so many Aucklanders and participants from across the country continue to embrace this event, taking to the streets of Tāmaki Makaurau each year to celebrate running and achieving personal goals alongside likeminded people,” said Murcott. “The event also plays an important role for numerous charitable organisations, with Auckland Marathon runners aiming to raise over $600,000 for charities in need this year.”
