Roadsters
Roadsters are runners who have shown long‑term commitment to Auckland Marathon.
Athletes who have completed five or more Auckland Marathons or five or more Auckland Half Marathons (not a combination of both) are eligible to be recognised as Roadsters.
Roadsters receive:
- A permanent race number
- Priority queuing at Athlete Check‑in
- A special event bib (must enter before 27 September 2026)

Applications
Please note your Roadster number is not automatically allocated when you qualify by participating in 5 or more marathons or half marathons. It is up to the participant to submit their application when they believe they are eligible. Applications close midnight Sunday 27 September 2026.
Applications CLOSED
For your roadster number to be printed on your bib, you must complete your registration into the 2026 Barfoot & Thompson Runaway Auckland Marathon presented by ASICS no later than 27th September 2026. During the registration form, you will be asked to input your roadster number, if you input the wrong number you will not be able to proceed with the registration.
Please check the Marathon Roadsters and Half Marathon Roadsters list to confirm your number is correct to complete the registration. It is each Roadsters responsibility to complete the online registration process correctly.

From 2027 onwards, Roadster status will be awarded to athletes who complete 10 or more Auckland Marathon events, across any distance.
We’ve evolved the Roadster program to better reflect the way our community runs today. Many athletes return year after year across different distances, and this update allows us to recognise that long‑term commitment in a more inclusive way. Whether you’re lining up for the marathon, half marathon or one of our shorter events, every start line counts toward your Roadster journey.

Roadster status will remain a celebrated part of Auckland Marathon history. Roadsters will continue to be recognised for their achievement and will keep their permanent race number and priority queuing at the start line to recognise your achievement and connection to the event.
From 2027 onwards, Roadster status will be awarded to athletes who complete 10 or more Auckland Marathon events (any distance). We’ve made this change to celebrate deeper commitment and make the program more inclusive across distances. If you are eligible to become a Roadster in 2026 (completed 5 marathons or half marathons), you can apply as per the above instructions.
Yes – the current Roadster criteria (5 events) will remain in place through the 2026 event. After that, the new 10-event milestone will apply.
Reminder that these need to be 5 or more marathons or half marathons and not a combination of both.
