Keeping safe at the Auckland Marathon

As the Auckland Marathon race week is fast approaching, we hope your training is going well and you are excited to get back to an event.

Ahead of you arriving at both Athlete Check-In and on race day, we want to make you aware of the measures we have introduced for 2020 to ensure we are in line with the current Ministry of Health guidelines and the New Zealand Events Sector Voluntary Code.

As a registered athlete for the Auckland Marathon, we ask that you:

1. Not attend the Event (including Athlete Check-in) if you, or an immediate family or household member, are feeling unwell or sick, have confirmed COVID-19 or COVID-19 symptoms, or if you have been instructed by the relevant authority to self-isolate. For COVID-19 health advice and information, we encourage you to contact the Ministry of Heath’s Healthline team on 0800 358 5453;

2. Maintain good hygiene practices at all times, including regular hand washing and sanitization when entering venues, after using the bathroom, and before and after handling food; and covering your mouth and nose if you need to cough or sneeze. Hand wash facilities are available at The Cloud, Start Lines, and Victoria Park. Additionally, hand sanitizer will be available at all venues and at aid stations;

3. Download the NZ COVID Tracer App onto your mobile phone (available here) and sign in upon arrival at all event venues and start lines. The NZ Government official COVID-19 QR code will be on display at the entry point and in prominent places in all venues including at The Cloud, each start line and Victoria Park. If you do not have the app you can register for contact tracing via hard-copy forms at Information Booths. Your attendance information (at Athlete Check-In and via the Event timing systems) will be collected for the purposes of secondary contact tracing and may be disclosed to the Ministry of Health should the need arise;

4. Comply with any public health and/or safety directions of event staff, police, or health authorities;

5. Be aware of your surroundings and remember to maintain physical distancing wherever possible in the Event precinct and out on course;

6. Usual hydration/nutrition will be available but you should feel encouraged to carry your own hydration and nutrition during the Event;

7. Be mindful of contact with others during race celebrations (including at the finish line);

We encourage all participants and supporters to stay up to date with the latest Ministry of Health information (including further information on good hygiene) available here.
